My Toto is 11 years old and still works perfectly and is one of the best investments I ever made. I suspect I have saved enough in toilet paper to have paid for it. I can’t believe that civilized people actually rub old trees across their bottoms when it can be delicately washed and blow-dried!
Great to hear its lasted so long! I think the west still has so much to learn from Japan about living more modestly, while still living great (or even better) lives!
First comment based on the picture. Also got a bidet though not integrated with toilet. One upgrade I got is a continuous heater and doesn't have a tank like yours, you get more hot water and the profile is a bit slimmer.
Lately, as I age, I become obsessed with looking at objects and reminding myself of their age. So, as I visited my parents last weekend, I continued this line of thought. One thing I came across is a strurdy, baby blue plastic tub for laundry that they've had since before me, but I bet at the time of buying they didn't realize they were going to spend 35 years and counting with that hideous bowl. I used to be their student in this matter, and had a cheap, orange electric kettle in my apartment for a decade, because I also learned from them not to ditch anything that's not broken. It was a relief to move in with my husband and their metallic kettle. I know better now, and aim for buying straight away the thing I do want to keep on the long term.
Ps. my eyes went wide at uniqlo, because im my financial situation at the moment that would be a leap *up* in quality
Did you buy and install a whole new toilet or just add the top part to an existing one? Did your landlord agree or did you just put it in and then replace it with a regular toilet again when you move out?
